WILL THE IEC ENGENDER A POITCAL CRISIS BY DEREGISTERING ALL PARTIES OR SOME PARTIES THROUGH THE SELECTIVE APPLICATION OF THE ELECTIONS (AMENDMENT) ACT?

This is the question that is occupying the minds of all those who are following political development in The Gambia. All eyes are now focused on what the IEC is going to do. There have been many claims that the IEC Chairman is unconstitutionally occupying his post. Hence it would be an irony if the same chairman ordered the de-registration of a political party on the basis it is not adhering to the law.

What is reasonable and justifiable in a democratic society is to repeal any law which aims to obstruct the right of any Gambian to belong to any political party.
