THE PUBLIC ENTERPRISES AND THE ISLAMIC STATE

The gala dinner organized by the State to commemorate the 51st anniversary of Independence was graced by prayers only to end up with a musical jamboree confirming the secular nature of the occasion.

Public enterprises are also organizing gala dinners and musical jamborees with musicians such as Wally Seck from Senegal entertaining dancers of all shades.

One is compelled to wonder why state officials continue to refer the Gambia as an ‘Islamic Republic’.

Foroyaa is still in search of the motive behind the declaration of the Gambia as an Islamic State by President Yaya Jammeh.

Many people in the Gambia could clearly see that the declaration has not led and will not lead to the handing over of power by president Jammeh to learned Muslim clerics.

Who then is the symbol of the governance of this Islamic republic? Is it the current president? Is it the current cabinet and so on?

They should continue to be alert and not to be misled to believe that every declaration is a lawful one.
