Police Probing Spate of Murders

The Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Police Force, Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo, has informed this medium that the police are investigating the alleged murder of Nyakassi Jawneh who was found motionless in her bed in Wellingara.

PRO Sisawo said the incident was reported to the Police on Friday, 31 January 2025.

“A team of investigators and forensic officers visited the scene to gather evidence surrounding the circumstances of the alleged murder,” the Police PRO said, adding that the lifeless body has since been transported to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital mortuary in Banjul, for a post-mortem examination. 

In a similar development, officers of the Brikamaba Police are investigating another alleged murder that occurred in Sinchu Madado on Friday, January 31, 2025.
The suspect, Haddy Boye, 21, is said to have been arrested and is currently in Police custody, in connection to the fatal stabbing of her husband, Karamo Jobe, who is 40 years of age.
As part of the investigations, Agents or Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) visited the scene, reconstructed the events, and recovered the alleged murder weapon (a knife). The victim’s body has since been escorted to Bansang Hospital for further examination.

According to the Police PRO, the public is urged to provide them with any information that can assist in their investigations.

Meanwhile, Officers of the Serekunda Police are also currently investigating an alleged murder involving two siblings in Dippa Kunda, in the Kanifing Municipality.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Friday 31 January 2025.

18-year-old Fatoumata Bintou Jallow, the suspect, has been arrested and is cooperating with investigators in connection to the alleged murder of her brother, 21-year-old Abdou Rahman Jallow. 

The suspect is in police custody as the investigations continue.

The Police PRO said as part of their inquiry, Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) of the Gambia Police Force had visited the crime scene early on Saturday morning, February 1, 2025, to reconstruct the scene and gather evidence, stressing that during the process, investigators recovered the suspected murder weapon which was a knife. 

PRO Sisawo said that the body of the victim has been transferred to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for possible post-mortem examination.
