Trust Bank Gambia Limited has presented a cheque for $10,000 to SOS Children’s Village in Bakoteh, to support the services of the Children’s Village to underprivileged children in The Gambia.

The donated money is geared towards the maintenance of one of the family houses in the village that the bank has adopted.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the Village in Bakoteh, SOS Children’s Village National Director Jean-Pierre Kouamin, thanked Trust Bank for the life-changing gesture in supporting the under-privileged, adding that they look forward to having more partners towards what the Village is doing in the country. He said they have different programs in the Greater Banjul Area and across the nation called “family strengthening program”. According to him, the program is meant to assist people by preventing family separations in communities.

In her address, the Managing Director of Trust Bank, Njilan Senghore, said the donation is not just a charitable act, but a demonstration of their unwavering commitment to the well-being of Gambian children, and a demonstration of their dedication to fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. She said the donation reflects their belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their circumstances, adding that the Children SOS Village stands not just as a place of refuge, but as a beacon of hope in a world often fraught with uncertainty. She said the donation embodies the promise of a brighter tomorrow for the children and their families, by offering them far more than just shelter and sustenance.

“The decision to adopt a house in this village was a very easy one because of the evidence we saw with our own eyes. We show happiness, love, and well-adjusted children by providing them with living in a family setup. That should be a source of envy for even people who are living within their own families. We know that a safe and secure home is essential for the physical, emotional, and mental health of every child, and Trust Bank could not be prouder to be associated with this initiative,” Ms. Senghore said. Ms. Senghore further states that Trust Bank makes lots of donations, especially in humanitarian, medical, sports, and education sectors. She said even though they donate to humanitarian, health, and education, this particular donation towards the SOS Children’s Village is their baby.

She said while many of them grew up in loving homes, orphans often yearn to find that family to call their own, and said they believe that this sponsorship deal being presented to the SOS Children’s Village, will have a far-reaching positive consequence on the lives of many orphans.

Margaret Camara, president of the SOS National Youth Network, thanked Trust Bank Gambia Limited for their constant support to their adopted house in particular, and to the entire Village as a whole.

“Rest assured that the donation has and will continue to go a long way in supporting the children and young people in our facility,” Ms. Camara said.
