The civil case involving Senegalese business tycoon, Abdoulaye Thiam, against Gambia’s businesswoman, Aisha Fatty, has resumed for the first time in 2024 after the Christmas break.
Thiam sued Aisha Fatty and the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The lawsuit aims to recover monies and properties, including vehicles, that Abdoulaye Thiam had given to Aisha Fatty during their intimate relationship.
During the court session, Counsels Lamin Ceesay, Kebba Sanyang and Lamin Bojang appeared for Thiam while Counsels Lamin S. Camara and Fatoumata Jallow appeared for Aisha Fatty.
Counsel L.S. Camara proceeded with the cross-examination of the witness Mulie, who translated the gold receipts and other documents from French to English.
Counsel inquired whether the witness had communicated with Bijouterie Lahat Kheweul gold shop during the translation process, to which the witness responded negatively.
Counsel Camara further questioned the witness whether he also spoke to Bijouterie La Solution gold shop to confirm the receipt or authenticity of the documents, but the witness also answered in the negative.
Counsel L.S Camara further asked the witness since he informed the court that he relied on google translation whether he knows the amount of applications on Google that do translation. The witness responded that Google has only one application that does translation that supports multiple languages. When asked about the caveats and disclaimers of Google Translate, the witness answered that he was aware of it.
There was no re-examination by the plaintiff’s counsel upon completion of the cross-examination, the witness was discharged.
The court adjourned the case to 21 February 2024 at 10 am.
