Events, unfolding in Senegal should teach the linkage between peace and the integrity of a political system. Legislature and executives all rely on the ballot box to get their mandate. Since they have vested interest, it is important that courts carry out oversight in determining what is right and wrong.
Senegal has four months to hold presidential election. It is becoming clear who the candidates will be. It is hoped that the peace dividend will be delivered by allowing all stakeholders to participate in seeking a mandate of the people. To exclude anyone would undermine the integrity of the electoral process and weaken social cohesion. Such a situation is never a recipe for peace and stability.
