3 Senior Government Officials Accused of Official Corruption, Forgery

The Attorney General’s Chambers have pressed charges against five (5) senior government officials in connection with alleged misuse of the 2018 Global Funds grant to the Gambia’s Ministry of Health.

The officials charged are Muhammadou Lamin Jaiteh – Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health , Balla Kandeh – Programme Manager of the Malaria Control Programme and Omar Malleh Ceesay – the Executive Director of the Health Promotion and Development Organization. 

They will be facing charges ranging from official corruption, forgery and conspiracy. The Ministry of Justice emphasised that this indictment demonstrates its commitment to accountability and transparency in the utilization of public funds. 

According to the Ministry, the decision to press charges was made following an extensive audit conducted by the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Gambia Police Force, ensuring a thorough and fair investigation process.
