The Brikama Youth and Sports Association (BYSA) has been slammed with a
suspension by the West Coast Regional Sports Committee, Foroyaa Sport can reveal.
It is reported that a letter from the West Coast Regional Sport
Committee (WCRSC) was written to the current executive of BYSAcommunicating the decision taken by the regional sporting body on the
ongoing furore between the Association and club representatives.
The said letter which indicated the suspension of the BYSA board is
demanding the Bassirou Barjoe-led leadership to hand-over to an
interim-committee with immediate effect.
This new development comes after the National Sports Council’s
referred the matter to the West Coast Regional Sports Committee who
set up a taskforce to investigate the matter.
In his reaction, Barjoe, the BYSA president, dismissed the letter
–purportedly written by the WCRSC chairman – as an individual’s
opinion and not necessarily reflecting the regional body’s verdict.
According to Barjoe, the WCRSC’s chairman’s report cannot hold water
because investigation by the taskforce is yet to be finalised.
He told Foroyaa Sport yesterday afternoon: “We were written to by
the chairman of the regional sports committee (Abdoulie Badjie) who said
that BYSC is suspended. The chairman wrote his own letter even without
the taskforce completing its investigation. Being chairman doesn’t
give you the mandate to suspend an association. Something has to be
established. The executive has to meet, the divisional sports
committee has to meet and decide that association X is suspended
because of A, B or C. This is being done by hidden hands and we are
not going to accept it.”
The saga in Brikama began after forty-four teams, claiming to be club
representatives affiliated to BYSA, petitioned for an early congress
at the end of April instead of August when the mandate of the current
leadership will end.
The group, which said it makes the two-third majority, decided to
forward their case to the National Sports Council who instead referred
the matter to the WCRSC.]]>
