The Gambia recorded four new cases of the deadly coronavirus, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to three thousand six hundred and sixteen.
The newly confirmed cases represented 3.5% positivity test rate. The median age of the new cases is 32 years.
No new COVID-19 related death was recorded.
This is the 164th national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in The Gambia, on the 16th March 2020.
The Gambia currently has two people in quarantine, one thousand and sixty-three active cases and one hundred and seventeen COVID-19 related deaths ever confirmed in the country.
Modou Njai the Director of Health Promotion and Education at the Ministry of Health, said one hundred and fourteen new laboratory test results were received from the National Public Health Lab.
Of these, he said none returned undetermined.
“Two hundred and two new COVID-19 patients recovered and got discharged,” he said.
Director Njai said the unusually high number of discharges resulted from the resumption of virtual clinics where the condition of every asymptomatic case, that was self-isolating at home, was monitored.
He said no person was newly taken into quarantine and thirty-seven people were discharged from quarantine.
The bulk of the active cases are asymptomatic and are as such self-isolating at home pending the manifestation of symptoms.
