QUESTION OF THE DAY
Constitution making is not a onetime process. Constitutions can be amended even after it is put into force. At each given stage one must ask whether the provisions of a draft constitution are improvements on the provisions of the Constitution it is expected to oust and replace. That is the exercise that should be taking place. The best Constitution can never be written. At each given time, circumstances would dictate how far short we will go in crafting a better constitution than we have inherited.
No matter what grievances a citizen may have against the draft Constitution, the question shall always remain: Would you prefer to retain the 1997 Constitution instead of aiding the draft constitution to come into force? That is the question that each Gambian citizen would eventually have to answer.
