A Press Release from the Gambia Police Force (GPF) has been issued to refute the allegations on social media platforms that Alagie Sowe, a Gambian of dual nationality, is in their Custody.

“We wish to make it clear that Alagie Sowe is not in our custody and none of his documents are with the Police,” the Release stated.

Alagie who is a Gambian-Canadian, is said to have an encounter with the Police when some Officers were painting a zebra crossing point on the Farato-Jamburr road.

Information from social media has it that on Tuesday April 7th, Sowe went missing and fingers were pointed to the police for his disappearance; that because of the zebra crossing point incident on the Farato-Jamburr road, Sowe was arrested and charged with obstructing Police Officers contrary to Laws of the Gambia.

The Release further stated that Sowe was charged before the Brikama Magistrate’s Court but he pleaded not guilty; but was released on bail in a sum of D25, 000 with one Gambian surety, to provide an original biometric ID Card. The release also informed that because of the coronavirus pandemic, the case was adjourned as the Courts have temporarily suspended sittings.
