Nation Building Should Be The Way Forward

A fragmented nation cannot stand on its own two feet. Gambians must add value to the 2016 democratic revolution. A nation must be able to change its leadership without a bullet being fired or a life being lost. Those who love their nation and people should begin the task of adding value to the change that happened on the 2nd of December 2016.

History teaches us that there are always two forces in a nation that are in a constant struggle against each other; the forces of progress and the forces of retrogression. The forces of retrogression depend on ignorance, prejudice and sectarianism to divide and set the people against each other to create national upheaval. On the other hand, the forces of progress depend on awareness, organisation and call for national unity in order to unify the people and turn them into a mighty force capable of moving mountains of poverty and building a haven of prosperity for all times.

The duty of all well-meaning Gambians is not to be petrified by the tactics of the forces of retrogression but to be emboldened by the resilience of the forces of progress which continue to remind the nation of their slogan during the difficult days of their impasse that Gambia should move towards unity and give the country a new start that would enable each to have a sense of belonging to a nation whose people are caring and loving. In that way all would embrace the slogan ‘one Gambia one nation one people’ and will give meaning in practice to the slogan ‘one Gambia one nation one people.’
