GRTS is a public broadcaster. Its management is the custodian of its editorial policy. The Board should ensure that the editorial policy of the public broadcaster is in line with the fundamental principles of the Constitution and laws that are connected to them. Section 208 of the Constitution states:
“All State owned newspapers, journals, radio and television shall afford fair opportunities and facilities for the presentation of divergent views and dissenting opinions.”
This is the mandate of the public broadcaster. If a welcoming party receives President Barrow, the public broadcaster should cover the event. If the leadership of any of the other political parties in the country is received by a welcoming crowd, they should equally be provided with coverage. Equal access to public service is a fundamental right of the citizenry which should be guaranteed by the state.
