About 9 Fisheries Officials Detained

By Mamadou Dem Foroyaa is reliably informed that about  nine staff of the Fisheries Department and Ministry were yesterday, Thursday, 22 January, arrested and detained at the Police Headquarters in Banjul. The reason for their arrest is not yet known. However, a source close to one of those being detained confirmed that the Fisheries officials are helping the police in their investigations. When this reporter visited the Police Headquarters Conference hall, he discovered that Dr. Bamba Banja, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Fisheries, and Mr. Nfamara Dampha, former Director of Fisheries, were among the eight officials under police custody. Also present at the police headquarters were the relatives and friends of the concerned officials. Talking to the Police Public Relations Officer (P.R.O), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), David Kujabi, on telephone yesterday, he confirmed that the said officials are in police custody.]]>
