The National Assembly Member for Serrekunda, Hon. Halifa Sallah, on Wednesday, 28th June 2017, visited victims of disasters and provided them with vital relief items.

In his meeting with residents of London Corner, the people lamented the difficulties they face during the rainy season as their roads get blocked by stagnant water making it difficult for them to conduct their normal businesses.

In their narration, runoff water that comes from Serrekunda, Bundung and the surrounding areas all pass through their streets in London Corner. They said sometimes when it rains heavily; it overflows to their residential areas making it difficult to get access outside. They also said the water logged areas continue to contain water till January after the rainy season before it finally dries up. During the rainy season, they said they buy their basic needs and keep them in store because of the water logged streets that make it very difficult for them to get access to the markets. The roads become unusable by cars and people due to big puddles in the streets.

They described Hon. Sallah as the first NAM to visit them in their time of difficulty, especially when they needed it. The overwhelmed crowd were very happy to receive their National Assembly member and told him: “We are not surprised because we know you will always do this.” Others could be seen chanting saying: “We knew you will never fail us and we will never regret voting for you.”

Just after the first rainfall, it was observed that water had already flooded many compounds. In their discussions, Hon. Sallah promised the people that he will bring a solution for runoff water to easily flow to the big gutter at the London Corner /  Bakoteh Bridge, so that they can easily move and have access to anywhere they want to go.

Hon. Sallah also visited fire accident victims, where he donated packs of corrugated iron sheets to the family. There too Hon. Sallah was given a rousing welcome by well-wishers.
