WHAT IS THE DUTY OF THE VOTER?
Election is the process through which the people of a nation or a region make important decisions which impact on their lives.
An unenlightened voter may vote for a friend because he has been nice to him or her; he or she may vote for a candidate because he or she is a relative, or speaks the same language, belongs to the same religion and so on and so forth; he or she may vote for a candidate because he or she has been bribed or may have even sold his or her voter’s card. To vote on the basis of the aforementioned cases is to mortgage one’s future and that of one’s children.
Voting in an election is making an informed choice. It requires the voter to understand the issues involved and digest what each candidate has in stock for the nation before making a decision.
In short, a voter should decide on the basis of issues and not sentiments. This is a duty every adult citizen owes to his or her future and to that of his or her children.
