Anybody who is 65 years or above in The Gambia would have to confront health risks if one is incarcerated in prison like the Central Prison in Mile Two. The dark cells and the congested environment leave the person with the risk of developing eye problems. If one is limited to prison diet one may suffer from serious nutritional deficiencies. Those who are prone to hypertension or diabetes are likely to have their condition worsened.
It is therefore important for the state to deal with politically motivated cases in a manner that will show magnanimity. Borrowed power is transient and those who are entrusted with such power should utilise it with magnanimity, otherwise one risks being seen as a contemptuous person.
We, therefore, hope the state will give a fresh look at the case of the UDP leader and act with speed to bring their ordeal to an end.
