MISSING IMAM, TRACED AT NIA

The Imam of Kanifing South, Alhagi Ousman Sawaneh, who was reported to
have been picked up by men in civilian clothes and whisked away wasfinally traced at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) in Banjul
where he is being currently held, according to his family.

A close family source has revealed to this reporter that their father
is presently detained at NIA headquarters in Banjul and that they are
preparing to take some clothes to him at his place of detention.

The source further indicated that the family is calling on the
authorities to facilitate the release of their father.

On whether they know why he is detained, the source said they are not
being told or aware of anything.
“The family is deeply worried and concerned about the present
situation of our father who is being detained,” he added.

Imam Sawaneh was picked up while leading a team of volunteers clearing
the grass in the Kanifing South Cemetery on Sunday, 18 October, 2015
from where he was taken away to a destination unknown to his family.
The family was desperately searching for his whereabouts initially
without success.
