Considered one of the most talented Gambian players in the 21st century, Yankuba Minteh has reacted to winning his first award with his Danish club Odense BK on 13rd January 2023.
In front of the club’s former players as well as current teammates, staff and administration, Yankuba Minteh was named OB’s Find of the Year on Friday, his club wrote as published on its website on Tuesday, 17th January, 2023.
Speaking to his club, Minteh, 18, said he was proud to be honoured with the award.
“I’m so happy. It’s my first award ever, so it means a lot to me. My contract at the club is my first professional contract, so that I already win a prize; it means a lot to me (sic),” says Yankuba Minteh.
“My friends and family saw on Instagram that I had won something, and when I told them what it was, they were really happy.”
The skillful right-winger moved to the Danish side Odense BK from Steve Biko FC in the summer of 2022 and made an instant impact for the U-19 side which earned him a debut for the first team on 10 September 2022 in a league fixture against FC Copenhagen. He would score the winning goal just three minutes after coming on.
The youngster is also aware of his quick progression with OB.
“My first six months at the club have been hard, but when you work hard, things also come easier. My transition has been quick – I only managed to play two matches at the Academy before I was promoted – but it has been really good,” Minteh said.
“Everything in the squad is just good, and the older players are good at helping me and giving me advice, and I am very grateful for that,” he says in conclusion.
Yankuba Minteh is now looking forward to the rest of the season, where important points are at stake, when the 3F Superliga kicks off again on Sunday 19 February, when Randers FC visit Nature Energy Park, OB stated on its website.
