WOULD PRESIDENT BARROW STEP IN TO EXPLAIN WHY THE BARROW ADMINISTRATION DRAFT CONSTITUTION IS STILL NOT PUBLISHED?

43

The government of The Gambia under the flying seal of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice has published on 14th August 2024 that the text of the Draft Constitution that is to be laid at the National Assembly could be found in Supplement “B”. Foroyaa wishes to inform the President in particular and the general public in general that no such text exists.

Foroyaa has pointed this out over and over again and the government is mute on the matter. This is too important a matter to be left without reasonable explanation. The gazetted text of the Barrow Administration Draft Constitution is the text that the public should rely on for discussion. This is also the text that should be issued to the National Assembly members when the Bill is laid for discussion and consideration.

As it stands, the legitimate text is unavailable. Foroyaa calls on the Bar Association to conduct its own investigation to find out whether Supplement “B” as indicated in the Gazette of 14th August is published. Our findings reveal that up to the time of going to press for the 23rd August 2024 edition of Foroyaa, Supplement “B” was still inaccessible.
