All development activities and works on the Bertil Harding Highway and Kotu Institutional Layout (between Traffic Light and Palma Rema Junction) have been suspended by the Gambia government on Monday, 2 October, 2023.

In a press release, the Government Spokesperson Ebrima G. Sankareh said the decision is in continuation of the Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs ongoing review of the land allocation and leasing in the area.

Sankareh said the review is informed by concerns over people not complying with the laws that govern state land allocation and leasing.

He called all affected persons or entities to submit their leasing agreement, land allocation letter, and other supporting documents to the office of the Ministry of Lands in Banjul by 9 October 2023.

However, he did not mention whether those who failed to meet the deadline would be punished.
