Woman Charged with Human Trafficking

Marie Mboob, a native of Nema Kunku in the Kanifing Municipality, was on the 8th October 2021 at the Banjul High Court in Banjul charged with Human Trafficking contrary to section 29 of the Trafficking in Person Act Cap 13:04 Vol. III Revised Laws of the Gambia 2009.

According to the Particulars Of Offence, Marie Mboob in the year 2017, at Nema Kunku in the Kanifing Municipality of the Gambia and within the jurisdiction of the Court, participated and was concerned with the travelling of one Amie Sanneh from the Gambia to Lebanon for the purposes of trafficking by facilitating her departure and linked her to an employer who received her at the Lebanon Airport and thereby committed an offence.

Prior to her appearance at the high court, Marie Mboob was helping the National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) on their investigation. She was later handed over to the Police on Friday, 8th October 2021, and the police subsequently arraigned her in court on Monday 11th October 2021. On Wednesday, 13th October 2021, her Counsel applied for bail.

Marie Mboob is currently under police custody pending her appearance in court on Monday 18th October 2021.
