QUESTION OF THE DAY
WILL THE CENTRAL PRISON AT MILE 2 BE RELOCATED?
For 52 years the state relied on retributive justice rather than rehabilitative justice. The Central Prison at Mile 2 symbolizes a concentration camp after 52 years of independence; fresh thinking is needed in handling the affairs of the citizens who are in trouble with the law. They should be seen as citizens first and offenders thereafter. Their rights should be respected when their liberty is restricted due to conviction.
The Central Prison at Mile Two should be transferred. A modern structure should be built away from the dumpsite and swamps so that prisoners could serve their sentence without being subjected to the environment that is injurious to the mental and physical health.
