All the indications are pointing to the fact that all the Gambian people are preparing for election. People who have never shown any concern for election are now showing greater enthusiasm than ever before. Those on the side of the opposition are calling on the parties to exercise prudence and come up with one candidate. They are exerting pressure from Kartong to Koina on anyone they could influence to make a coalition a reality. Candidates who have declared their intention are being monitored; constitutional provisions on qualifications are being investigated by opponents aiming to use any loop hole to challenge their nomination. The political temperature is indeed heating up earlier than expected. It is therefore expected that participation in the 2016 presidential election would be higher than ever.
