WHY IS ISMAILA JAMMEH STILL IN DETENTION WITHUT TRIAL FOR MORE THANM 72 HOURS?
The impunity of the past in detaining people for more than 72 hours without trial should not be tolerated under the new Gambia.
New Gambia came about because people belonging to different political groups felt that enough was enough, that impunity should come to an end. Assurance was given that the rule of law will prevail.
This simply means that the supreme law of the land would be respected and upheld by the executive and its agents, the legislature, the judiciary and every person under the jurisdiction of the Republic.
We call on the authorities to quickly enquire into Ismaila Jammeh’s detention and either take him to court or release him. This is what the rule of law requires. Its verdict must be respected.
