QUESTION OF THE DAY
WHY HAS FOROYAA NOT INTERVIEWED THE GRTS MANAGEMENT TO FIND OUT WHY THEY DISCRIMINATE PARTIES THAT ARE NOT IN GOVERNMENT?
This is a very important question which tends to put Foroyaa on the spot. It is however correct that GRTS is a public institution. It can be put to check by an active public. One does not even need to go to court.
No public institution or officer has a right to discriminate anyone and the office of the Ombudsman is established to address any such discrimination with speed. This is why such an oversight institution was established.
The media is also given the responsibility to hold the government accountable by section 207 of the Constitution which states,
“The press and other information media shall at all times, be free to uphold the principles, provisions and objectives of this Constitution, and the responsibility and accountability of the Government to the people of The Gambia.”
So GRTS is still accountable to the public and Foroyaa will try to interview both the Director General and the Minister of Information to get their opinion on the issue of presentation of divergent political views on state media.
