By Muhammed Sailu Bah Foroyaa has reported about the rounding up and sending back to jail of some convicts who were briefly released on presidential pardon over the weekend and wanted to know what is responsible for this dramatic development. The short lived or brief happiness enjoyed by the families and friends of Mrs. Fatou Njie, Matarr Bojang and Abdoulie Sowe, who were allowed to reunite with their loved ones for less than twenty four hours, was not only disappointing to them but incomprehensible as well. This is what had prompted Foroyaa to send a reporter to enquire from the prison authorities what is responsible for this revocation of the decision to pardon these prisoners. When this reporter visited the office of the Director General of Prisons at Mile Two in the outskirts of Banjul yesterday, Tuesday, 7 July 2015, he was told by one Mr. Kujabi, a prison warden, that the Mr. David Colley (DG) was busy at the time and unable to see any visitor. The prison officer asked the reporter whether he has made an appointment to meet with the Prison DG but the latter responded in the negative. Mr. Kujabi then said that the best thing for the reporter to do is to go to Mr. Colley’s residence at Yundum to book an appointment. He also suggested that the reporter can go back today and promised that he will convey the request to the Prison DG. ]]>
