WHY ARE FARMERS HESITATING TO SELL THEIR GROUNDNUT CROP?

91

Foroyaa has received reports that farmers are weighing the price of American rice with their groundnut crop. According to information received the rice brand called American rice is being sold between D1750 to D1850 per 50 kg bag. Twenty four bags of rice would amount to between D42,000 and D44,400.

According to the farmers cost of living has gone so high that the earnings from their crops is no longer sufficient to enable them to even purchase the bags of rice needed to feed their families. This excludes the price of fertiliser.

Generally, the issue of farming is reduced the harvesting and sale of groundnuts. It does not extend to the rice and condiments questions. Farmers have to feed large kabilos and meet all other needs. It is therefore not surprising that poverty rate continues to grow.
