A vice president is to oversee a country as acting president if the sitting president is on leave. This, however, is not the practice in the Gambia. There is no publication in the gazette indicating that the president is on leave and that the vice president is acting as president. In fact, the visibility of the vice president has diminished which does not contribute to the dismissal of all the speculations about her.
Even the EU Parliamentary delegation visiting the Gambia recently alluded to the fact that they could not meet any government official. This is strange for a government. One expected a response by now to inform the Gambian people that the government is functioning.
We hope the government will issue a press release and tell the nation who is acting on behalf of the president who is reported to be on leave.
