That begs the question: Who is the Attorney General of the Republic? Section 71(2) states among other things that: “……a person shall not be qualified to be appointed Attorney General unless he or she is a legal practitioner of at least five years standing at the Gambian bar.” Hence no one could serve as Attorney General who is not a legal practitioner of at least five years standing at the Gambian bar. Furthermore, the Constitution is quite clear on the role of the Attorney General.
