substantive appointment was made.    The public is informed that the Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology is to oversee the Ministry of Justice. That begs the question: Who is the Attorney General of the Republic? Section 71(2) states among other things that: “……a person shall not be qualified to be appointed Attorney General unless he or she is a legal practitioner of at least five years standing at the Gambian bar.” Hence no one could serve as Attorney General who is not a legal practitioner of at least five years standing at the Gambian bar. Furthermore, the Constitution is quite clear on the role of the Attorney General. SECTION 72(2) states that “The Attorney General shall be the principal legal adviser to the Government and shall have the right of audience in all courts in The Gambia.”]]>
