A republic belongs to a sovereign people. Soldiers and law enforcement officers of a republic should be trained to be the servants of their country and people.
It is the duty of the people of a republic to determine their manner of government. Hence servants of the country and people in the security and law enforcement forces should always guarantee the rights of the sovereign people to determine the manner of government.
Any attempt to seize power and retain it against the consent of the people is against the republic. Such an action could not be reasonable and justifiable in a republic.
Therefore all progressive forces in Africa should speak with one voice to those who have taken power through the barrel of the gun that they should hand over that power to the people to determine their manner of government in a free and fair election without any delay. That is the only way soldiers and law enforcers could prove that they are the servants of the people and the true defenders of the republic.
