WHEN WILL THEY BE RELEASED?

QUESTION OF THE DAY

WHEN WILL THEY BE RELEASED?

The Gambia is a country where detention without trial is the order of the day. However as the election draws near arrest and detention without trial and disappearance without trace have intensified.

The following who were arrested in September, October or November are yet to be released: Omar Malleh Jabamg a businessman and supporter of the Independent Candidate Dr Isatou Touray, Bakary Fatty a journalist at GRTS, Surakata Danso Magistrate at Brikamaba, Momodou Sabally Director General of GRTS at the time of his arrest and Momodou Sarjo Jallow Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time of his arrest.

To arrest and detain them for more than 72 hours without trial contrary to the constitution is impunity.

Needless to say, the moment of decision is drawing near and as President Jammeh is busy criss-crossing the country rendering account about his government’s deeds he should not only listen to his praise singers but to those who are crying foul as well.
