QUESTION OF THE DAY
WHEN WILL SOLO SANDENG HABEAS CORPUS CASE BE HEARD?
The key personality behind the 14 April incident is Ebrima Solo Sandeng. It is his reported death that led the UDP leadership into the street to demand to know his state of wellbeing as to whether he was dead or alive. Since the beginning of the trial of arrestees, Ebrima Solo Sandeng had not appeared in court. This has led to the filing of a writ of habeas corpus demanding that he be brought to court.
On the 27 June many people waited for the case to proceed, but it did not proceed because of the claim by the defendant (the state) that they had not received the briefs of the applicant. The case was rescheduled for 7 July which happened to be a public holiday. According to the law, the proceeding should have taken place on the following working day after the public holiday. The public is waiting. Foroyaa will try to find out why there is no date set for the proceeding to take place.
