Omar Sarjo was dismissed from the Armed Forces under the pretext that he had gotten into the force using somebody else’s documents. He was prosecuted for obtaining a Gambian passport by false declaration, but was acquitted and discharged. His legal counsel filed a case on his behalf in the high court for his reinstatement. The court awarded his plea to be reinstated.
This should have been done without delay but as we go to press, after three years the verdict of the court and its orders are yet to be implemented. The state should not be found in contempt of court. He should be immediately reinstated as ordered by the court. That is the essence of the rule of law.
