QUESTION OF THE DAY
WHAT PLANS ARE THERE FOR THE GTTI FOUNDRY?
The GTTI has already proved itself capable of making basic machine tools when it manufactured and delivered farm implements ordered by the ministry of agriculture. It can therefore be used as the base of a machine building industry.
It goes without saying that poverty in the rural areas cannot be eradicated by farmers relying on the hoe. Mechanisation must lead the way, meaning that farmers have to rely on farm implements which will be needed in large numbers.
Is the government ready to invest in a tool making industry using GTTI as a base and through this to not only create that vital link between agriculture and industry but to create employment and save foreign exchange, the goal being the eradication of poverty in rural Gambia?
