The Secretary General of the OIC has come to Banjul to engage in consultation with the chairperson, President Barrow. A statement was issued indicating that they will now move from ceremonial statements to actual action to solve the problem of Palestine and Sudan. One may add Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran.

Conflict in these areas is intertwined and must be addressed in a comprehensive manner. Sudan however would require collaboration between OIC and AU. The Palestinian question must be addressed in to ensure peace in Lebanon, Syria, Iran and Yemen, and further prevent war between Iran and Israel.

The OIC could best initiate an international conference on Palestinian statehood to pave the way for an end to the genocide through ceasefire followed by negotiation for a two state solution. The OIC must take a lead on this since the US and the European Union are still undecided on what to do and Russia is completely incapacitated by the war in Ukraine to be relevant in finding a solution. China is also aloof and restrained by the policy of noninterference. The OIC is therefore the key international organization that could be the driver in finding a solution to the Palestinian question of statehood.

Sudan would require the initiation of a dialogue between the chairperson of the OIC and the Chairperson of the African Union aimed at creating a committee of experts who would work with a special envoy of the UN Secretary General to open up dialogue with the leaders of the contending forces to take note of their negotiating positions before any negotiation of the contending forces as well as involving all political, traditional, religious and civil society entities for the settlement of the conflict.
