QUESTION OF THE DAY

WHAT IS THE LIKELY IMPACT OF LONG DETENTION OF PARTY LEADERS?

Party leaders have constituencies. Their long detention is likely to make their supporters to be restless. They must attend court cases en masse as frequently as they are held. This would likely lead to the assembling of more people in the area than court rooms could accommodate. Hence, many are likely to stand in the streets to wait for their leaders as long as they are held in custody and subjected to trial.

Security forces are likely to be engaged longer to contain such crowds thus enlarging risks of conflict between the crowd and the security forces.

Hence cases involving political leaders should be handled with maturity.

Vindictiveness does not pay.
