QUESTION OF THE DAY

WHAT IS THE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE?

The answer to this question is found in section 62 of the Constitution. It reads “A person shall be qualified for election as president if he or she has completed senior secondary school education.”

These issues come up during nomination if after acceptance of nomination a voter raises objection to the nomination stating grounds for doing so. It is at this point that evidence is looked at in order for a final decision to be made by the IEC as to whether to uphold the objection.
