Transcribed By Alhagie Saikou B. Nyassi On Wednesday 14th January 2O15, the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Mohamed Ibn ChambasRepresentative for West Africa, Muhammed Ibn Chambas, a Ghanaian diplomat, visited the Gambia as earlier announced by Foroyaa.Questioned by the state media, the envoy of the UN Secretary General envoy explained his mission as thus: “I came to present myself to Mr. President in my new capacity as the Secretary General’s representative to West Africa. ……….. I also use the opportunity to extend to Mr. President, his government and the people of Gambia the best wishes of Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, UN Secretary General for the New Year and continuing prosperity for the Gambia. I at the same time conveyed to him the strongest condemnation of the UN Secretary General himself, as you know following the unfortunate event that happened here, came with a very clear statement and recurrent total rejection of any attempt to access power by unconstitutional means. You know today in Africa there is zero tolerance for Unconstitutional accession to power. The UN completely condemned it and has said so, very, very clearly. So there should be no ambiguity about that.” Secondly, the envoy noted: “It is the willingness on the part of the UN to work very closely with the Gambian authorities to thoroughly and properly investigate this in a manner that would satisfy everybody, that the facts are known and those who are culprits in this are brought to face justice with due process and total respect for human rights. So on this I think he would be very pleased that the Gambian authorities are willing to work with the UN to ensure that this matter is thoroughly and properly investigated and that would be deterrent to any who may seek to try and overthrow a Constitutionally, constituted government and authority in the Gambia or anywhere in Africa.”]]>
