West Coast & Banjul Derbies End in Stalemate

The West Coast Region derby between Fortune and Greater Tomorrow, and the Banjul derby between Wallidan and Banjul United ended in goalless draw.

Wallidan, the most successful football club in the GFF First Division needed the win to move from bottom place in the league standing. They are struggling in the relegation zone. The draw against Banjul United on Saturday in match day 22 leaves Wallidan with 5 wins, 5 draws and 12 defeats. They sit in 16th position in the league table.

12th placed Banjul United has 25 points. They lost 2 and drew 3 of their last 5 matches. So far, in 22 matches, they have 6 wins, 7 draws and 9 defeats. They are 2 points above the relegation zone.

Fortune dropped to 4th place after a draw against Greater Tomorrow Football Academy in the West Coast derby played in Brikama.

The two sides lost their previous match and they each needed a win to recover from their last defeat. Fortune lost 2-1 to Steve Biko while Greater Tomorrow lost 1-nil to Brikama United.

The first leg ended 1-1. Fortune knew by winning they will go to second place in the league standing. For Greater Tomorrow, a win would have taken them to 5th place – 1 point from the top 4 spot.

Relegation battling Samger are sitting in 15th position with 20 points, equal with bottom placed Wallidan Football Club. They have 5 win, 5 draws and 12 defeats. Waa Banjul are also in 14th place with 22 points, 2 above the bottom placed team. They have 5 wins, 7 draws and 10 defeats.

TMT Football Club also drew 0:0 BST Galaxy in Banjul. TMT moved up to 8th position with 28 points and BST Galaxy moved up to 9th place with 27 points.

Team Rhino won 1-nil against Gambia Armed Forces Football Club on Saturday at the Late Ousman Saho Football Field, Yundum. Team Rhino deposed Fortune FC as they now occupy 3rd place – equal on points with 2nd placed Falcons. Deapite the back-to-back defeat, GAF remained in 7th place with 29 points.
