Gambia’s WAFU team has returned home after exiting the Ghana tournament in their first game.

Gambia bit the dust to hosts Black Stars after the Burkinabe central referee ‘gifted’ Ghana a penalty in the final minutes of the game.

The verdict led to Gambia exiting the tournament on 1-0 and Gambia Football Federation have now lodged an appeal seeking to overturn the verdict or at least get the referee in the centre of the furore, punished.

Football House confirmed writing to the competition’s chairman seeking redress, copying it to the Confederation of African Football and WAFU member countries.

The GFF urged the organisers to act and not wait until bigger nations are affected before taking swift measures.

In a previous statement, Gambia threatened to opt out of WAFU’s future tourneys if justice isn’t seen done.

Coach Omar Sise’s side touched down in Gambia yesterday via Dakar.
