In its third edition, the aforesaid championship will feature only eight countries including hosts Mauritania, defending champions Senegal, Mali, Liberia, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Guinea and The Gambia. Cape Verde is the only missing team in the nine-nation zone championship.
