By Kebba Jeffang Mr. Lamin Waa Juwara, the former minister of Local Government and Regional Administration, on Monday, 8th September, 2014 appeared before Magistrate S.K Jobarteh of the Brikama Magistrates’ court charged with one count of abuse of office. The abuse of office’ statement of offence was read to him by the court clerk. He is accused of abusing his office by committing an act that is contrary to section 90 (1) of the criminal code cap 10:01, vol 3, laws of the Gambia, revised edition 2009. According to particulars of offence, Lamin Waa Juwara, sometime in the year 2012, at Sinchu Gidom, Kombo South, West Coast Region in the republic of the Gambia, being an employee of the Gambia government as the minister of Local Government and Regional Administration, abused the authority of his office in a manner that is prejudicial to the Alkalo and the elders of Jamburr village, by creating Sinchu Gidom as a village and appointing one Abubacarr Sillah as the “Alkalo” of the said village, knowing that Sinchu Gidom is a “kabilo” within Jamburr village, thereby committed an offence. However, he pleaded not guilty as charged. The matter was then adjourned to 17th September, 2014 for the commencement of the trial. ]]>
