UN To Give Gambia $36 Million For Peace Building

Upon presenting his letter of credential to President Adama Barrow, Karl Frederick Paul, United Nations Ambassador to The Gambia, said that The Gambia is eligible to receive 36 Million US Dollars from their peacebuilding fund.

He said the funding is to last for the next five years and is aiming to support development goals in terms of peace building, transitional justice and security sector reform. 

“We will work with the government to establish the priorities in these sectors,” he said.

Ambassador Paul, said during his discussion with President Barrow, they talked about how to strengthen their relationship further and also how the UN will continue to bring support to the development and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of The Gambia.

The UN Ambassador added, “The Gambia has a very excellent record in terms of achievement of the SDGs and we as UN and other agencies are funding programs to continue assisting the country in developing their priorities but also implementing the national development priorities that the country has set forward.” 

Kalzeube Neldinkingar Madjimta, Ambassador of the Republic of Chad to The Gambia, residing in Bamako, also presented her letter of credential to the President. 

She expressed happiness to be in The Gambia pointing out that Chad and The Gambia already have bilateral and multilateral relationships.

“The President of Chad wants to strengthen this relationship and give it a new framework,” she said. 

She added that her task is to make sure the relationship between the two countries is strengthened and go to higher heights.

A letter of credence is a formal diplomatic letter addressed from one head of state to another to give ambassadors credence to speak for their country.
