Momodou Sabally, the Campaign Manager of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has tendered his resignation to the opposition party effective 20th December 2023.

This has been confirmed by Almami Fanding Taal, the Spokesperson of the United Democratic Party (UDP) who told Foroyaa that their party has responded to his resignation and they intend to issue a statement to that effect.

Sabally, an erstwhile Secretary General and Head of Civil Service joined UDP before the 2021 presidential elections. He sent a resignation letter to the Senior Administrative Secretary of UDP on 20th December 2023. The purported letter has no heading.

The letter indicated: “I write to formally inform you of my decision to resign as the National Campaign Manager of the United Democratic Party.” He said his decision to resign as National Campaign Manager of UDP was done in his best interest and that of the party ‘in view of current circumstances’.

“Accordingly, I have also decided to cease to be a member of UDP,” he said.

Sabally has also returned the vehicle assigned to him by the party.

In March 2022, it was rumoured that Momodou Sabally has decamped to join NPP, but he dispelled the gossip.

Sabally was a strong critic of the regime and fond of giving them names. In one of his posts, he described the current regime as a “Mafia Cabal”.
