The national treasurer of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Amadou Sanneh was confirmed released on Monday, 30th January, 2016 from Mile 2 prison after serving 3 of his 5 year jail term.
The party’s deputy administrative secretary Alagie S. Darboe confirmed this report last night. However, he could not tell on what condition he was released. A family source also confirmed his release. Attempts to reach the UDP party leader, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, on the terms of his release was unsuccessful.
In what many regard as a politically motivated trial, Amadou Sanneh, together with Malang Fatty and Sambou Fatty, were convicted and sentenced to five years in jail on two counts relating to sedition. He was accused of issuing ‘malicious documents’ to facilitate asylums for Malang Fatty and Sambou Fatty. He denied this allegation but the then high court judge Justice Emmanuel Nkea found him guilty and therefore sentenced him to five years in jail.
