Twelve in Custody for Alleged Possession, Trafficking of Prohibited Drugs

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency – The Gambia (DLEA-G) arrested twelve people for alleged possession and trafficking of prohibited drugs.

OusmanSaidyba, the Public Relation Officer of DLEA-G, said the alleged suspects were arrested in different locations within the country.

He detailed: ‘‘On July 11th 2024, 34-year-old Lamin Jallow from Lamin village in the West Coast Region, was arrested by the Joint security unit of DLEA-G and the Gambia Police Force in Banjul, with two wraps of suspected ‘kush’ that was concealed in white paper and put inside a transparent nylon bag.”

He added: ‘‘On July 11th 2024, 43-year-old Saikou Manneh, from Bundung was arrested by Agents of Bundung DLEA-G station with four wraps and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa, concealed in white and brown paper respectively.”

The PRO said on July 9, 2024, 19-year-old Sellou Bah from Jambur village was arrested by Agents of the Anti-Crime Unit in Jambur, with twenty-three wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and fourteen pills of ecstasy, concealed in white paper and put inside a blue metal tin.

‘‘On July 12th 2024, 27-year-old Abdul Aziz Touray from Sierra Leone residing in Sinchu Alagie, was arrested by agents of Kotu DLEA-G station with seventeen wraps of suspected ‘kush’ which was concealed in white paper and put in a transparent nylon bag.

‘‘On July 12th 2024, 23-year-old Amet Jatta of LatrikundaSabiji was arrested by agents of Serrekunda DLEA-G with twenty-six wraps of suspected cannabis sativa which was concealed in white paper and put in a small green bag respectively,” he said.

‘‘On July 13th 2024, 33-year-old Dawda Njie of Banjul was arrested by agents of Kotu DLEA-G station in LatriKunda German with seven wraps of suspected ‘kush’ which was concealed in transparent and multi colored nylon bags respectively.

‘‘On July 15th 2024, 23-year-old Sarjo Konateh from Kuloro was arrested by agents of Brikama DLEA-G station with one bundle of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement paper and put in a multi colored bag.

‘‘On July 14th 2024, 31-year-old Babucarr Gaye, a Senegalese national residing in Kungeul, was arrested by agents of Kerewan DLEA-G station at Bani checkpoint with six bundles and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa, concealed in cement papers and put in a nylon bag, and finally put inside a black travelling bag.

‘‘On July 14th 2024, 27-year-old Salieu Baye fom Senegal and resident of Touba, was arrested by agents of Kerewan DLEA-G station at Bani Checkpoint with four bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement paper, and put in a blue and black color travelling bag.

‘‘On July 17th 2024, 23-year-old James Kalokoh from Sierra Leone residing in Bijilo, was arrested by agents of Kotu DLEA-G station with seven wraps of suspected ‘kush’ concealed in a damage fan handle.

Saidyba further reported that 25-year-old Musa Faal of Farafenni was arrested by agents of Farafenni DLEA-G with fifteen wraps of suspected ‘kush’, fourteen wraps of suspected cannabis resin (harsish) and three wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, all of which he concealed in white paper, foil paper and medical sachets and placed inside a multi colored packet.

‘‘On July 18, 2024, 48-year-old Buba Fatty from Kaur JannehKunda, was arrested by Agents of Kaur DLEA-G station with thirteen wraps of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white papers and placed inside a black small bag,” he explained.

Mr. Saidyba said all the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue on the cases.
