The criminal trial involving Sheikh Muhideen Hydara and Buyeh Touray,
the Caliph General and former Alkalo of Darsilami Sangajor,
respectively, did not proceed on Thursday, 16th April, 2015 at Brikama Magistrates’ Court as the trial magistrate was transferred.This was disclosed to journalists by Lawyer Lamin K. Mboge, the
counsel for the two accused persons, who also confirmed the
adjournment of the case in chambers.
“The matter is adjourned due to the transfer of Magistrate Omar Cham
to the Bundung Magistrates’ Court and given the fact that the matter
is yet to be assigned to a new magistrate, the case was deferred to
the 30th April, 2015,” Mboge told journalists.
As far as this case is concerned, if a new magistrate is assigned,
he/she will be the fourth to preside over the case since the
proceedings commenced in August last year. The first was the former
Principal Magistrate Dayoh M. Small Dago, who later resigned and went
to private practice. He was succeeded by Magistrate Sirrending Sanneh
who was then replaced by Magistrate Cham.
The two accused persons are standing trial on two counts of
‘Disobedience to a lawful order’ and ‘Conspiracy to commit
misdemeanor’. They both deny the charges during their plea.
They were charged after being held in detention for three nights at
various police stations for allegedly observing the Muslim feast of
Eid-Ul Fitr prayer on the 29th July, 2014 and instead of 28th July,
2014 as sanctioned by state.]]>
