By Sulayman Bah A top Norwegian footballer has switched his allegiance to Gambia and is keen to play Kristian Brixfor the Senior Scorpions, Foroyaa Sport can reveal. Kristian Brix, born in Norway to a Norwegian mother, is interested to don the red, white, blue and green colours of Gambia where his father hails. The 24-year-old, who represented his country of birth at all youth categories including U-17 level, is highly rated and has on few times been considered by the Norway national team football coaches for possible recruitment. But the defender who’s also capable of operating as a winger instead opts to play for Gambia. ‘(Is) where some of my roots are,’ is the immediate reply from 73kg former Valarenga player as reason for his decision, in an exclusive interview with Foroyaa Sport from his base in Olso. I have never been to Gambia but I would love to go there on holiday or to play football. My interest comes from the chance to play international football for a country where some of my roots are. I have played for Norway and now maybe it’s time to play for Gambia,’ Kristian who can play with either foot, told Foroyaa Sport. Reached for comment, the Gambia Football Federation Vice president Ebou Faye said in reaction to the news: ‘He is highly welcome in the Gambia. He’s most definitely welcome. We are willing to take players willing to play for their country.’ His name is unfamiliar to Gambian football fans and Brix himself has never visited the West African nation. But that soon looks to end with Scorpion-bound Kristian planning to show up one day either on a holiday or international duty with the Scorpions. Though he’s yet to pull on the Gambian jersey, he is already acquainted with few Gambia internationals in Tijan Jaiteh and Ebrima Sohna –two players he speaks so fondly of. The pair midfielders played for Norwegian outfit Sandefjord while Brix was an influential figure and captain of the side before departing last season for the top flight outfit, Bodo/Glimt. He’s mentioned in our top ten most promising uncapped Gambians in abroad last month. Follow the exclusive Brix story in our next publication.]]>
