THE WHITE HOUSE AND THE US CONGRESS SHOULD MAINTAIN AN EVEN HAND IN THE ISRAELI-PAESTINIAN CONFLICT

32

The suicidal atrocities perpetrated by Hamas to make its point and the genocidal atrocities perpetrated by the Netanyahu administration to make its point have not made the Palestinians and Israelis more secure. The shooting of four hostages in cold blood to prevent their rescue to make a point has not advanced the course of Hamas, instead it shows that it does not belong to the school of liberation movements that win hearts of hostages by treating them with dignity and humanity so much so that when they are released they become ambassadors of peace.

In the same vein, the shooting of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi by Israeli forces in cold blood is also teaching the world that the Netanyahu administration does not belong to the school that sees demonstrators as people exercising their rights to speak truth to power in order to contain and roll back impunity and injustice of all types.

All those who perpetrate suicidal or genocidal acts must be deprived of any moral authority to represent the Israelis or Palestinians. An independent movement of Israelis and Palestinians should take the front line and speak a language that the Palestinians and Israelis understand, a language that would put an end to the barbaric acts and give rise to two states and two peoples that will co-exist in accordance with the spirit of good neighbourliness. The White House and the US Congress should note that demonstrators take to the street for two purposes. If their states are opposed to injustice everywhere, they do not display hostilities towards a government but that they go to demonstrate against injustice wherever it raises its ugly head. However if their state appears to be tolerating injustice or appearing to collaborate with it, those states also become the object of protest. No state can gain credibility by closing its eyes to barbarism.
